Note: This was my homework for my Basic Food Prep class! I was so inspired. I wrote about my journey, how I overcome bulimia and became a much healthier person just by informing myself. Please read and share!! :)
Let thy food be thy medicine
I am a strong believer of changes!
If we really want to change for our best everything is possible. This women and
her family are in such a poor health conditions, they might look happy on the outside,
but they are poisoning their body in the inside with such bad eating habits.
Giving up a bad habit is hard,
harder than it seems, but if you stay positive and determined, you can overcome
anything that gets in your way. I faced a big change myself, most of my high
school years, I struggled with bulimia, I couldn’t control myself from eating
trashy proceed foods in big portions and then throwing up. I felt horrible, I
didn’t know what to do and I never ask for help. High school was a stressful
time for me, I was always busy and never gave time for myself, my routine was
always the same, school, work, homework, school, work, homework and so on and
on. My only pleasure was food junk food.
After graduating, I had a whole month free for
myself, and that’s when I realized that I wanted to change, I wanted to become
a healthier person. I started researching and I found so many helpful things
and people on the Internet that completely changed my life and gave me a new
perspective of a healthy diet. I believe that this information could help this
women overcome her bad eating habits.
The first thing I found was the
movie, “Fat, Sick and Nearly Death”, it is such an inspiring movie that talks
about the bad healthy habits of eating a poor diet, its about an Australian men
who was 100 pounds overweight, he was also loaded up with steroids, suffered
from many diseases and had to take so many pills in order to be able to
function right. This man got tired of feeling bad and decided to become a
healthier person and started a diet. He lost tons of weight, got rid of
medication and became a healthier men just by doing a 60 fasting diet of
drinking all day green juices made with all natural fruits and vegetables. This
really inspired me, seeing this sick, overweight men becoming into a whole new
person in just 60 days! I was so inspired. If only this women would watch this
movie and do the diet she would turn into a whole new person, she would see and
feel for herself what a healthy body feels, and what being fully satisfied
really means.
Another of
my mentors as I like to call them, is this amazing women called Kristina
Carrillo, she such a motivation and inspiration to me, through her I learned
about a fully raw diet, which consist of eating raw vegetable, fruits, nuts and
seeds. This might sound extreme for this women giving up her fatty food,
process meats and refined sugar for natural food. To me it’s the simplest way
of eating. Food that comes forms the ground, real food. It is the most natural
way, without any altered ingredients, chemicals and eating it in its raw form,
keeping all its nutrition. I actually did this diet, well not a diet it’s
actually a lifestyle that many people live, and I felt amazing, my energy
levels were so high, I was always in a good mood and I felt so good about
myself.
To me being
on diet is stressful you think what you can eat and what you cannot eat, low
carb this gluten free that, screw that! Just use common sense and eat food that
will do good for your body, exercise, eat less meat, eat less proceeded foods, drink
lots of water and eat enough fruits and vegetables, and it will become a life
style, you will not be overthinking of what to eat!
This women
and many people struggling with weight problems can change if they inform
themselves and put effort on wanting to change for their best, at least
incorporating more fresh, unprocessed food in their diets. Yes we all have
financial problems and many people say that eating healthy food its expensive,
but lets just think about it, would you rather pay for healthy food that will
keep you energized and feeling great or for cheap food that will harm your
body? and remember if you get sick now you have to pay for doctors and
prescriptions. The choice is yours.
I overcame
bulimia, I am a much healthier person, but I still crave bad foods and working
in the food industry can be hard when keeping a healthy diet, that is why we “future
generations” need to be educated about healthy eating. I am very happy that we
are discussing this topic in class. I am super interested on keeping learning
about this. Oh and another thing that I learned is to share what I know, I
believe if we share of what we know many people will be making that change of
becoming a healthier person, I post so many things about nutrition on my
Facebook wall and I have receive so many feedbacks and many people have
actually ask me for help. This made me so happy because that is how I became a
healthier person, by educating myself about nutrition.
